Wishful Cooking

Confession: I'm pretty certain I like the idea of cooking a lot more than the actual process of cooking.

I love flipping through recipes. I keep up with a half-dozen cooking blogs. I take note of ideas that seem fun, unique, and delicious, and I have a well-organized Google document solely for the purpose of cataloging my best finds.

The problem is, however, is that despite my ever-growing recipe collection, I never seem to actually make anything. I get home from lab, go for a run, take a shower, check my email, read some articles, analyze some data, work on medical school essays, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...before I know it, it's 10 pm, I'm hungry, and it's some selection of rice/beans/veggies/spaghetti/eggs for dinner once again.

While these certainly aren't bad dinner options-- they're fast, simple, and healthy-- they aren't exactly exciting.

Wouldn't something like this be more fun?

Looks delicious, no?

Now that the MCAT's over (hooray!), and the day's are growing longer, I'm going to try to be more intentional about actually cooking. While I probably won't cook something exciting every day-- or, let's be honest, even every few days (sorry, Ben) -- I am going to try and give the cereal-for-dinner rut a rest and embark on a (small) culinary adventure!

  1. The apple cheddar frittata looks and sounds amazing! I completely understand about wishful cooking -- whenever I'm at school, I get so worn out that I just make something easy.

P.S. The Marais flats are SO comfortable! I was a little worried, but they're absolutely perfect. I can't stop wearing them.
