Terror in the Woods

This past weekend, Jack, a member of my lab, and Erin, his wife, hosted a very unique Halloween party. Rather than host the party at a more conventional venue, Jack and Erin rented a tiny chalet in the north of Lausanne, situated in the middle of a public forest.

the invitation, emailed out to the lab.
While the location was certainly fun, actually getting there was a bit of a challenge. Fortunately, Lausanne's public transportation system is outstanding, and after a couple of buses and metros, Ben, Amy, and myself found ourselves as close to the chalet as we could get. From there, we were only a hike through the (rather dark and scary) woods away from the chalet!

ben and me in front of our last "bus", which was actually a
van. lausanne's public transit system never fails to amaze me-
you can really go anywhere!
hiking in the dark to reach the chalet. I might have been
a little scared....
the chalet!
even the doorway was decorated festively!
although the one-room chalet was small, it was warm and
cozy, filled with fun costumes and yummy treats.
out FANTASTIC costumes! from left to right:
me , amy, ben, and vidya as winter, fall, summer and spring.
we were trying to be creative...
the party hosts! erin and jack as a
demonic ballerina (it's not red-eye...she
actually has red contacts in!) and a
mummy.
rikki, a PhD student, as a cloud (with her 6-month-
pregnant belly as the sun!) I thought this
was adorable.
although esra didn't really have a costume,
I think the hood on her black jacket makes
her a pretty convincing grim reaper.
the jersey shore cast (although I don't really watch
TV, so the reference was kind of lost on me...)
although the party was fun, I spent most of the time talking
to folks by the fire....it's nice to be warm :)
