It’s starting to become very, very cold in Lausanne. Windy, too.
This past weekend, I had made several exciting plans, but none of the really panned out. Originally, Ben and I had wanted to go hiking in Interlaken for a day. I had visited Interlaken in the summer of 2008, and remembered as quite possibly the most beautiful place in Switzerland (and that’s saying something.) However, the day before our proposed hiking trip, it was clear that hiking was not a smart idea: the weather in Interlaken was in the high 30s/low 40s, and raining. Some of our friends actually went on to Interlaken and hiked anyways, but Ben and I stayed back, thinking that hiking in the rainy cold wasn’t only miserable, but basically asking to get sick.

My backup weekend plans—visiting Lausanne’s Farmer’s Market and a couple of exciting-looking parks—were also dampened by the weather, as it steadily drizzled in Lausanne all weekend as well. My weekend did have some high points, though: on Saturday night, Ben and I met up with some friends and cooked a fabulous Mexican dinner (apparently, there’s a magical grocery store in Lausanne that sells not only marshmallows, tahini, and peanut butter, but black beans as well! This was very, very exciting news—I had resigned myself to being black bean-less until July). Unfortunately, I was a very bad blogger Saturday night, and forgot my camera- you’ll just have to trust me that the grilled veggies, black beans (!) and homemade guacamole were outstanding.
Finally, late Sunday afternoon, the weather took a turn for the better, and the sun came out. Naturally, I wasted no time in putting on my sneakers, and going for a YAY-it’s-finally-sunny-outside run.
