It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

To be honest, before now, it hadn't really felt like the holiday season. Sure, I had enjoyed snow days and holiday parties, but the overall Christmas spirit had been somewhat lacking. My apartment was free of decorations, I had heen working longer hours than ever, and the constant background of Christmas music was missing. More importantly however, I was far, far away from my family and friends, as well as all the special traditions that help give the holiday season that special charm.

Fortunately, that's changed. My amazing parents arrived in Lausanne this morning, and with them, came my Christmas spirit in full force. Since they were fairly jet-lagged, we had a very relaxed day-- we enjoyed good conversation in my apartment, had a long lunch and lovely dinner, and strolled around Lausanne, admiring the city's decorations and lights. Spending my time with family and away from lab, made it finally seem like this Christmas season had indeed arrived.

Although my parents were pretty zonked, we did manage accomplish one very important task-- we bought a beautiful little Christmas tree and a strand of lights, and proceeded to set it up in my apartment, all while drinking hot chocolate and listening to Christmas tunes.

It's definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

our beautiful little christmas tree!
after years of artificial trees, it is wonderful to have a
real tree again! the smell is absolutely wonderful!
there's just something magical about a
lit christmas tree at night.
