Reading:
I tried and tried and tried to get into Chad Harbach's The Art of Fielding, and I just couldn't do it. It's not that I didn't like it--I was ready for it to be over about 100 pages too soon.
I know it got great reviews, and a ton of my friends five-starred it on Good Reads, so maybe I'm missing something. It's a lot like how I feel like about Jonathan's Franzen's books-- what do people see that I don't?
While there were many things about the book that I didn't quite like (baseball in general, lack of non-love-interest female characters, the bizarre fictional college setting) it was the names that finally did it for me: Skrimshander. Guert. Starblight. Pella. WHAT.
I'm trying My Own Country by Abraham Verghese next. I LOVED Cutting for Stone, and the setting is my neck of the woods, so I have high hopes :)
Moving:
3 miles, hedgehog pace.
Part of my feels like such a slacker for not pushing myself and training for something, but a bigger part of me is just happy to run what feels right.
Learning:
Ugh. I know I know I know I shouldn't complain, but this season of life is rotting. my. brain. I am trying so hard to be a self-directed learner (buzzwords!), but without a patient or a test or a something to motivate me, it's really hard. I actually debated going ahead and buying MKSAP16 to do some questions, until I realized it's like a billion dollars and something most residencies will buy for you anyway. Maybe I should break out Harrison's? Or finally start regularly reading NEJM? Or start Duo Lingo and learn some Espanol? Gah.
Travelling:
FINALLY have a day in Nashville to catch up on life. The I-Trail has really been pretty fun, all things considered (all this travel gave me a new national park, catch up with old friends, and weekend of skiing!) but my to-do list is long and it's hard to be productive on the go.
Plans for today/tomorrow am:
-finishing up my ASH presentations (!!!!!)
-catching up on 329082309438023948902 emails (underestimate.)
-(finally) finish reviewing charts for chart review.
-start organizing information for upcoming MS1 histo/anatomy review.
-read something (anything) medical/educational for 30 minutes.
-sending in a passport renewal form (already?!?!)
-CLEAN. (gah.)
-pick a ski jacket (tried on a bunch in breck...now just need to read reviews and pick!)
-purchase 2 hostess gifts
-laundry/packing for my next trip. which is tomorrow. because life. (double gah.)
Lettttttttttt's go!
